With a beer custom-brewed to remember her and a cause that lives on in her memory, Charitable Suds at Rhinegeist Brewery celebrated the life of Amy Merrell and helped build the first ProKids endowment. Amy died in Februrary 2015 and had been a founder of the brewery, among her other contributions in Greater Cincinnati.
The endowment was created in late 2015 by Elizabeth Ricci, Amy’s sister, who is from Montgomery. Ricci had learned about CASA organizations like ProKids while a Kappa Alpha Theta at Indiana University. Nationally, CASA is the partner philanthropy for the Theta sorority.
“My sister gave tirelessly to this community,” Ricci said of creating the Amy Merrell Steps to Success Endowment at ProKids. “As I struggled with my family to come to terms with her death, I thought about how to keep her spirit alive. When I found ProKids, I knew I had found a way to do that.”
