At the 6th annual ProKids Young Professionals (PKYP) Backpack Bash at 50 West Production Works, guests raised funds to provide every ProKids child with a backpack for the upcoming school year.
Abused and neglected children, often in foster care, have an uphill climb when it comes to education. Only 40% graduate from high school and many fall behind because they don’t have the right educational services. ProKids children, who have a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) are more likely to graduate and 97% of them have the services they need.
PKYP Social Chair Carrie Gilbert, who is also a CASA Volunteer, welcomed everyone and introduced another CASA Volunteer, Donald Swain. Swain shared a story about one of his cases and how the young woman he advocated for graduated this year from high school.
