ProKids named its 2018 Merilee Turner Volunteer of the Year and its Community Builder of the Year this month, citing the contributions of volunteer Amy Russert and the Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation.
At the event, Neal Mayerson noted that his family had wanted to “humanize the justice system for our kids” by working with ProKids nine years ago to help the agency move into its current home on Burnet Avenue. “It had been donated to us. The spirit of it was a pass forward, a gift meant to keep giving.”
Amy said that ProKids has been her “passion” for more than 20 years. “This is the best thing I’ve ever done,” Amy said. “I consider the staff, the parents I’ve met, all my little babies (I’ve advocated for) part of that.”
