Substance Abuse in Families—Chapter 7

The goal of this class is to increase participants understanding of and ability to assess the families and family situations of the children with whom they will be working as a CASA volunteer. In particular, participants will consider the issue of substance abuse and how this issue impacts families. Hamilton County treatment resources will be discussed.

Exploring Cultural Awareness—Chapter 8

The goal of this class is to familiarize participants with some of the current thinking regarding cultural awareness, cultural diversity, and the adverse effects of bias and discrimination. Participants will better understand their own cultural influences and personal biases, and strive to increase their cultural awareness and sensitivity in their CASA volunteer role. Discussion led by CASA volunteer Gary Hunter.

Understanding Children - Chapter 10

This class will focus on child development, attachment, separation, permanence, resiliency, and other issues for children.

Discussion led by Lisa Leonard, Therapist.
