ProKids Young Professionals

PKYP is a group of active people who are dedicated to stopping the cycle of child abuse in the Greater Cincinnati area. Our goal is to raise young professionals’ awareness of child abuse and to support ProKids mission of helping Hamilton County’s foster children find safe, permanent homes.

PKYP was founded in 2011 by professionals who wanted to help foster children but whose limited time prevented them from taking on the casework required to serve as CASA Volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

PKYP provides its members the flexibility and opportunity to share their energy and talents so they can make a difference in our community. It also happens to be a great way to network, develop leadership skills and meet new friends.

Why I’m a PKYPer

Hello!

My name is Carrie Gilbert, and I am a Youth Reentry Staff Attorney at the Children’s Law Center. I work with youth who have been involved in the juvenile justice and/or foster care systems.  A few years ago, I became aware of ProKids and the work they do to support and advocate for children in the foster care system in Hamilton County.

I am the Social Chair of PKYP and a CASA volunteer. In these roles, I am surrounded my smart, thoughtful, passionate people who are committed to ensuring that foster children in Hamilton County have the resources they need to thrive. PKYP raises awareness of ProKids efforts through volunteering and social events. Our primary goal is to raise money to purchase school supplies for ProKids’ children. This year, we hope to pack 300 backpacks so that ProKids’ kids can start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed.

If you are searching for a way to get involved in the community and surround yourself with passionate young professionals, I encourage you to join PKYP. If you would like to take a leadership role in PKYP’s work, please consider joining our board. PKYP works hard to support the work of ProKids, and as a PKYP member, you can help make a difference in the lives of ProKids’ children. Join us!

PKYP supports the work of ProKids:

  • By helping to spread the word about ProKids mission
  • Planning PKYP’s happy hours and fundraisers, including the Backpack Bash
  • Participate in fun volunteer activities like wrapping presents for foster children around the holidays or organizing school supplies for children in the fall
  • Fulfilling requests that our children have from time-to-time for items like bike helmets or art supplies. These are small requests, all under $50.
