Letter to the Editor from ProKids’ Board President, Kelly Wittich
I am writing regarding Krista Ramsey’s column, “CASA volunteers toil to help foster kids thrive” (Jan. 19). We are so appreciative for coverage highlighting our exceptional CASA volunteers; I couldn’t be more proud of the many wonderful, loyal and passionate people involved with ProKids. I am also very thankful that you have illustrated the need for more community members to serve the children who are still waiting for a voice in court and a safe home.
CASA volunteers work to shape the arc of a child’s life, but they don’t do this work alone. There are lots of important efforts occurring daily by other people working in the child protection system. Day in and day out, Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services social workers, guardians ad litem, attorneys, juvenile court judges and magistrates, therapists and foster parents are working with children who might not otherwise have a chance to grow up safe and secure.
My hope is that media outlets in our community will commit to tell these stories on a regular basis so that community members can have a better idea of what is working and what needs to be improved. An informed and engaged citizenry is vitally important to insuring the safety of our most vulnerable children.
